Escape!

A haunted hotel room, 60 minutes to escape.

It was a rush going into the escape room and knowing that if you hadn’t escaped in 60 minutes you failed the challenge. we were told that we had three hints if we needed them and everyone put their belongings into a black container. No phones were allowed in the game.

The adrenaline started pumping, the creepy video of the possessed girl started playing. With one of my best friends clinging to dear life on my arm I started immediately scanning the room.

Locked boxes, pictures in the fire place, and a mysterious clock that didn’t work. Then there was the couch with the headless doll under the sheet.

The first major clue was found and we obtained a key! A second room. Everyone was too scared to go in because it was dark. But me, I went barreling in with no thought as the what I would find. I felt around, only making out the outline of a dresser. I opened the cupboard door and lo-and-behold there was a rope to pull on. A loud clunk sounded as the top shelf gave way. I swear the entire staff could hear our screams from outside. Whoops, maybe I should have warned them I was doing it. down fell a bunch of small pictures that corresponded to a larger picture in the first room.

It revealed the combination for another lock which gave us access to a second creepy DVD. I admit I wasn’t fond of watching it, but a time was said. A time… The broken clock! As we solved the clock puzzle, again everyone screamed and jumped, but a clunk sounded from the other room. A second dresser moved out of the way to reveal our third room.

again, everyone hesitated. Again, I barreled through and said, “Nothing scary in here!” They all came through with wary faces. we were almost there. Another key would unlock the next door. Maybe I didn’t want to do that. another clue was solved while I finally lost my nerve (only a little). Peeping through the door I saw, written in blood, “collect all items to exorcise the girl.”

We were so close. Only one more locked box to go. While I unlocked the door and placed the items in the correct order my friends solved the final clue. All items were finally placed and the key to escape was revealed!

I have done many escape rooms in my time, and will continue to do so, but this was very well done. It was the biggest one that I have ever done with four separate areas and interesting puzzles. But the best part of it was, we were such a great team that we beat the escape room in 28 minutes using 0 hints! We are now in the draw to win a free escape game.

Have you ever done an escape room? What was your experience?
